A deal for a driver

Please, do not neglect me
When feeling sleepy starts to creep in
Then you pass out as I have been
Just for a fraction of a second!

You feel adrenaline,
You are awakened
While feeling chill along your spine
Do NOT ignore that warning sign!!!

Be SCARED, I am begging you
Singing out loud
Will help a lot! No doubt!

The moment it is safe,
Pull over on a side
Don’t question yourself,
You could have just died

Ten minutes you will sleep, no more
Then rested continue your trip,
I have done it before
              ***
I see you waking up alive and making it!
Arriving on time is a deal, will you take it?

I knew a woman in the 80s who was the wife of my brother's friend, Butch. She was the sweetest, kindest woman ever. One day my brother tells me she was driving home from the airport late at night. Exhausted behind the wheel, she fell asleep and crashed into a concrete bridge support and was killed instantly. It shook me to my core. My older brother, too, fell asleep behind the wheel years ago and awoke just in time to avoid catastrophe, thank God. This poem is more than poetry, but a profound and wise message for the many who consider the deed aforementioned. Thank you, Andrei, for sharing wisdom. Well written, my friend.

Thank you Steve for your support, and a high rating of my work! I appreciate it. I am verry sorry to hear about your friend's family losses. Yes, the risks indeed are high, if you don't learn to catch the first sign and act properly. Tricks help, like singing in this case, similar to ALWAYS following two stage process when consuming a liquid beverage while driving. Something I was trying to explain to my son recently. I hope to help, and this poem gets recalled when it is needed. Thank you.
