Aunt Mary, wonderfully Danske

Douglas Blair 1951 (London)

She talked some about Denmark.
Beautiful islanded Land.
Music, baked goods and
Blue cheese.
Wonderful open-faced sandwiches
Herring or rolled spiced pork.
Personalities like
Hans Christian A. and Jenny Lind
King Christian (50 years innovating).
She left for Canada way
Before Victor Borge on
The silly/good piano.
And on Ed Sullivan.
My AUNT MARY
Sister to Lillian
And Hertha (married to my Grandad
Ken Roberts, died young).
Mary had rehearsed for me
The Old Country.
Some catchy traditional
Sayings in the language.
Dancing at the bandstand
Under the stars, a teen.
Delightful, peaceful sounds
Of Europe.
She was still lyrical
And full of good fun.
Costumes, pranks  to cover that
Beautiful rosy cheeked face.
Easily taken to singing.
De facto mother to mine.
