Contest Entry Sameness

Douglas Blair 1951 (London)

Bottomless blue in
My True Love’s eyes
June has arrived with
Cocoon’s surprise.
Waves roll in
And my prints are lost.
Grace all sufficient
At Calvary’s cost.
Stars break me down
So un-countable.
Some old-school grief
And lotsa trouble.
What good my Life
The knife in hand.
No note is left
To understand.
Is this the depths
Of the Depth of Art?
Is there no scalpel
To ope’ the Heart?
Pick day to day stuff
That most have seen.
Find some sweet mystery
That dwells within.
Twist you some necks
And bring on a laugh.
Inspired in God’s moment.
Not time and a half.

The refreshing, rambling, unexpected joy and ribbing of someone like poet Billy Collins comes to mind, as a fresh start for poets who truly love the craft, and desire to say something novel and incisive…Douglas Blair.
