The Apple Tree
Drew Thompson Jr 2004 (Cleveland)
I come back to you every so often,
To take & take then gain satisfaction,
I thought attention is what you need,
But it’s the fruit I wanted - nothing but greed,
You give & give without a fight,
Perhaps it's because I was your only light,
Yet I still left,
I got all that I asked for,
Your leaves grew cold,
Then your fruit sat to mold,
Shortly I came back to you,
But left without a word,
I didn't know I was that important,
A bit of light is all you wanted
To grow & grow & have plenty of fruit,
I took that away,
So now you sit & rot,
Im sorry my Apple Tree,
One day you’ll find a light,
To tomorrow or the next,
I hope you believe.
