Reminiscence of North Eastern Hill University : A chronicle of Youth and History in Shillong

In days of yore, when I did roam
Through halls of learning, in North Eastern Hill University,Shillong,
My thoughts did oft' long for those days still,
For memories of youth, so full of joy.

In Shillong, where history did unfold,
We learned of friendship, love, and notoriety.
Melancholic moments, waiting for the bus,
And standing in a crowded coach, we longed

For seats, and thought of how to make our way
Through life, with friends we thought would last forever.
But alas, they're gone, and we're left to ponder
On what we learned of humanity and love.

Blessed by Cupid, with stories both good and bad,
We learned of Dionysus and Apollo,
And how to live a life both young and free,
Filled with energy and youthful verve.

But now, as time does pass, and I do age,
My thoughts do oft' long for those days of youth,
When life was filled with joy and energy,
And friendship, love, and notoriety.

For if I had a time machine, I'd go
Back to those days of learning in North Eastern Hill,
To relive the memories, and make them still,
A part of my present, as well as my future.

But alas, such is not the case, and I must
Accept the passage of time, and all that it brings.
Though my thoughts do oft' long for those days of youth,
I know that life goes on, and new memories will be made.

About this poem

The poem is a nostalgic reflection on the days of youth and learning at North Eastern Hill University in Shillong. The speaker expresses a longing for those days, filled with youthful joy and memories of friendship, love, and notoriety. The melancholic moments of waiting for the bus and standing in crowded coaches are also mentioned, illustrating the struggles and challenges of youth. The speaker also reflects on the lessons learned during this period, including humanity and love, and the blessings of Cupid, Dionysus, and Apollo. The imagery of these gods adds a touch of classical mythology to the poem, further emphasizing the fleeting nature of youth and the importance of seizing the moment. The speaker also muses on the possibility of a time machine, wishing to relive those days and make them a part of the present and future. However, the speaker ultimately accepts the passage of time and the inevitability of new memories being made in the future.
