A Beacon of Hope in the Solar Valley : The Forlorn Windmill of North Eastern Hill University

Upon the barren hill, where once did bloom
A verdant meadow, now a solar valley,
A tall and broken windmill stands alone.
Its white metallic sails, in disarray,
Are bent and twisted, as if in dismay
At the neglect that has left it so forlorn.

Forlorn it stands beside the Administrative Block,
A symbol of the bad conditions of North Eastern Hill University.
Its creaking gears and rusting frame do mock
The students who do pass it daily, in dismay
At the state of their beloved alma mater.
But hope still flickers, like a candle in the valley.

For though the windmill may be broken and forlorn,
It still holds within it the promise of better days.
One day, its sails may once again bloom
With the wind that blows through the solar valley,
And it will stand tall and proud beside the Administrative Block,
A symbol of the University's resurgence and glory.

And as the students pass it by, they'll look upon
The windmill with a sense of hope and pride,
For it will be a symbol of the University's better days.
It will no longer stand alone and forlorn,
But will be a beacon shining in the solar valley,
A shining light amidst the Administrative Block.

And so, though the windmill may be broken and forlorn,
Let us not lose hope, for better days will come.
As the wind blows through the solar valley,
And the windmill stands tall beside the Administrative Block,
We'll look upon it with pride and not with dismay,
For it will be a symbol of our University's resurgence and glory.

For though the windmill may be broken and forlorn,
It still holds within it the promise of better days,
As the wind blows through the solar valley,
And it stands tall beside the Administrative Block,
A symbol of the University's resurgence and glory,
And not a source of dismay and disappointment.

And as the repair crews toil to fix the windmill,
Their efforts will not be in vain, for they will bring
New life to the old, broken structure, and lift it from forlorn.
For though it may have been a source of dismay,
It will now be a source of inspiration and hope for the University,
A shining example of progress in the solar valley.

And as the students look upon the windmill,
No longer broken and forlorn,
They will see it as a symbol of the University's better days.
For the Administrative Block,
Will now have a shining companion, to stand beside,
And the solar valley will be brighter with its resurgence and glory.

And as the windmill spins, its sails once more in bloom,
It will remind us all that hope and progress are never forlorn.
For though the University may have faced difficult times,
It will always stand tall and proud in the solar valley,
A symbol of better days, and not a source of dismay.

And so, let us not despair at the sight of the forlorn windmill,
But let us look to it as a symbol of the University's better days,
As it stands tall and proud beside the Administrative Block,
And brings new life and light to the solar valley.
For though it may have been a source of dismay,
It will now be a source of inspiration and hope for all.

About this poem

The poem above is a sestina, a complex poetic form consisting of six stanzas of six lines each, with a repeated end word in each line that follows a specific pattern. The theme of the poem is the tall and broken old white metallic windmill located in the solar valley next to the Administrative Block Building at North Eastern Hill University in Shillong, which represents the bad conditions of the University but also holds the promise of better days when it gets repaired. The poem uses dark, mysterious, and supernatural elements in the style of Edgar Allan Poe, with complex and advanced Elizabethan English vocabularies. The poem speaks to the power of hope and progress and how even the most forlorn of places can be transformed into something beautiful.
