LEFT IN THE DARK

The caution tape is up
I am telling myself that I had more than enough
I wait hoping for tomorrow,I wait wanting to settle for nothing.

I want it all
I want to be able to pour it into my cereal bowl.
I wear a sign on my chest that reads in crayon closed for renovations.

With your eyes transfixed on my heart
I want you to have a conversation with my love.
I promise you that it will do your soul some needed good.

Sweep away these used thoughts
that occupy the doorstep of my mind
and move the hands of the tick-tock ticking of the old grandfather clock.
I want you to analyze time and space.

I have wasted minutes and seconds in the past trying to go places that I now know I was not meant to be so I always got lost along the way. in the silence of this cold winter's night, I am forced to be left alone to sit and wonder and reflect on who I am and who I want to be.

Still, I stand here in the dark with frost-bitten hands
with a million more questions and really no answers
