Equal Justice for All: The Struggle of North Eastern Hill University Workers

The workers of North Eastern Hill University,
Under the banner of All NEHU Workers’ Union,
Are straight and firm with their demands,
For regularisation and equal pay for all.
Their nature of work is the same
As that of regular employees,
As per notifications and Swami Handbook 2023.
But the admin section exploits them,
Engaging them as casual workers for years
Without issuing identity cards or appointment letters.
This issue must be solved, for it is unjust.
Our Union's vision is clear,
We fight for humanity and justice,
No matter how hard the road may be.
But victory is our calling,
For casual workers are entitled
To equal pay for equal work,
As interpreted by Supreme Court judgements.
But for far too long,
They have been denied this right by the admin section,
Their exploitation must end,
Under the banner of All NEHU Workers’ Union.
We will not rest until justice is served,
For the workers of North Eastern Hill University.

About this poem

The sestina poem is a powerful and thought-provoking piece that highlights the struggles of the workers of North Eastern Hill University. The poem is written under the banner of All NEHU Workers’ Union, which is a clear indication of the workers' unity and determination to achieve their demands. The workers are demanding regularisation and equal pay for all, which is a fair and just demand. The nature of their work is the same as that of regular employees, as per the notifications and Swami Handbook 2023. However, the poem reveals that the admin section of the university is exploiting the workers by engaging them as casual workers for years without issuing identity cards or appointment letters. This is an unjust and inhumane act that must be solved. The Union's vision is clear, and they are fighting for humanity and justice, no matter how hard the road may be. Victory is their calling, as casual workers are entitled to equal pay for equal work, as interpreted by Supreme Court judgements. The poem highlights that for far too long, the casual workers have been denied this right by the admin section, and their exploitation must end. The Union will not rest until justice is served for the workers of North Eastern Hill University. The poem is a powerful reminder of the importance of fighting for workers' rights and the need to end exploitation and injustice in the workplace.
