Helping Hands

Luminary 1990 (Scarborough)

As I pass,
A hat in hand,
Held out,

Internally,
I do so,
Tick,

As a clock,
Turns to what,
Is right,

Such time,
That died,
Of past,

I had,
Yet to,
Find,

The change,
In mind,
I have.

About this poem

Double meaning poem. On one hand, speaking to homeless people whom are passed by often without a second thought, and on the other hand, the person themselves who has always asked for handouts and help but eventually realizes they can not only help themselves with their own two “helping” hands but also start helping others who need one as well.
