Waiting

Kaci Tami 1960 (Vatukoula)

Someone once said
that time waits for no man
It is apparent
that this someone has never waited
nor procrastinated for two hours straight
Just waiting to be picked up from work
Everyone's left including the cleaners
So you have to wait out on the street
While you fret, because you have just been
waiting,waiting, waiting
"Pick you up at 3" he said grinning
when he dropped you off this morning
and now he is not picking up his phone
which goes straight to messages

You swear under your breath
In case some unknown comes strolling by
and catches you seething with rage
your drawn up lips,
forming the beginning of a snarl
Then you rethink the mornings body language
was that a  sinister curl that suggested
I have got you right where I wanted you
as he drove off and here you are
tense, upright, spewing
body curling, sinews tightening
As mother time gnaws every waiting tendon
Your mind, fills in  the time with excuses rapt
" car breakdown" " accidents" " children" my foot hurts!"
While rational mind, chimes in
"He's probably forgotten"
You heave a sigh at the futility of it all
sothe waiting persona
Like Atlas carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders
waits...waits...waits...
Shoulder's stiffen,
toes face inwards
tighten, lips curl,
anger exudinh from every pore
Yes?, No?...it's not
Oh shit...did I get the day, the time wrong
or did he merely forget...
and so I wait and wait and wait....

About this poem

This is a poem that reflects of a couple's dynamics and the feeling that one is drawn into when one is waiting to be picked up and the other person is late...very late!

Kaci Tami

I am an aspiring writer, poet, teller of tales that is me. I have always seen things in a different light and from my perspective, it gives you an insight into what makes me tick as a human being. My life is always hectic and the most important thing I have learnt is that there are three things that one should value in life (a) Your loved ones (b)Your health (c) The memories you create with people. In the end, we all leave this world alone, so spend time creating memories and meaningful relationships with individuals and society at large. My poems reflect my perspective on the world at large both real and imagined. I am in the process of collating an anthology of poems so I can share my likes, dislikes and life with others. Thank you for reading my poems more…
