You Were The One

Barajas 1980 (Illinois)

I spent so many nights thinking of you.
Drinking away my sorrows as the night
drifts away.
Looking at the end of each bottle.
The warmth of your soft lips remains upon my lips.
Knowing that you were the true love I had
ever known.
You are the one who rescued me from
my lonesome.
Changed who I was.

Being the one who brought me back from living on the edge.
You lifted me up from my knees. When I felt the weight of the walls on my shoulders and made me new.

Trying to ignore how I felt about you taking the days for granted. Now, I find myself at the end of this bar. Looking for a way to feel what I felt when I was with you.

I take a sip, feel people starring. The bitter sweet burnt old fashion to numb my lips.
I see your face lingering in each ice cube.

I can never replace the time that was lost.
The only I can do if you come back. I promise to be a better man. To love you each day as if it was our first.
Giving back all that you did for me in each breath a take.
Being better a second time is all I ask.

Drinking one more to end the night
and repeat again tomorrow till you come back to me. Till then I close my eyes and see you in my dreams.

About this poem

I wrote this poem as a way of expressing when love fails. The feeling of being in a bubble of disbelief and mending a heart.
