Riaz

Arbab 1983 (Dhaka)

they jeered my freewill and laughed at my core

relentless dictation of life and rules

walking drums more suited to be mere mules

vile eyesore for several days I bore

failed to store cruelty, had to let it pour;

fools hissed at cons, raging molecules;

curses poured in ampoules through my loose stool

no to abhor as I deserve splendor

revenge firmly planted in my aura

thick-leather belts helped tame my relatives

the effect on my spirits, elative;

damp air, better to study The Torah;

a few dirtied their clothes with yellow stains

too bad gains soared at the expense of pains.

About this poem

It is about a young man whose light was dimmed by surrounding relatives.
