Rondeau of Astute Consequentialism

Perceptive minds with prescience do espy
A plethora of options to be had,
And weigh each one with verifiable degree
Of worldly ramifications that are grand.

But fools, with vision clouded by ideology,
Are blind to outcome and verity,
And base their thoughts on doctrine's fallacy,
And principles that lack authenticity.

Thus let us strive to be astute,
And in our decisions, be consequential;
For wisdom's path, though oft times arduous, is just
And leads to progress, while folly's is but tantamount
To being lost in an abyssal, dark thrust
A life of vacuity, both scant and surmount.

About this poem

This sonnet, titled "Rondeau of Astute Consequentialism," presents the idea that wise individuals, or those with "perceptive minds with prescience," carefully consider the various options available to them and the real-world consequences of each before making a decision. In contrast, "fools" with their "vision clouded by ideology" are blind to the true outcomes and consequences of their actions, basing their decisions on false principles and ideas. The poem encourages readers to strive for astuteness and to make decisions based on the potential consequences, recognizing that wisdom's path may be difficult but ultimately leads to progress, while foolishness leads to emptiness and stagnation.
