MY ONLY CHILD

My only child died at such a young age
my child did not see or learn much during their short period of time.

I swear to you all
that I would have given my life
to catch that beautifully innocent child

I do not remember their mother
nor do I remember their absent father
my only child died a million slow deaths inside of my mind.

It was a fiery crash that sealed this angel's faith
I recall going to the cold funeral home
staring aimlessly into the coffin at this boy's body

That is only for a dozen and a half years that I looked upon as being my brother, my father, and most important best friend
it has been a long time since his end
