Chasing Magic Dragons

Ever since that night we met,
You changed my life in many ways.
With the splendor of your essence,
You hooked me with your charming ways.

Chasing dragon's through the night.
Until the break of dawn.
Inhaling all its breath.
Until the smokes all gone.

One puff of you was all it took.
You took me by surprise.
Stayed with me until this day.
You never left my side.

You taste as sweet as honey.
Appear so crystal clear.
So magical inside the wand.
Smiling from ear to ear.

Then when your spent.
You turn my smile upside down.
Body's hurting, muscles ache.
Out comes my evil frown.

When I look into the mirror.
My eyes are not the same.
My reflection is demonic.
And my persona is insane.

Its all fun and games.
Until someone gets hurt.
Shattered family, life in jail.
Or six feet under dirt.

On bended knees I beg of you.
Please leave my life alone.
Decomposing like a zombie.
My flesh hangs from my bones.

You took me from myself.
In such a scandalous way.
Just one more hit before you go
And I'll be on my way.

Alone again and evil frowned.
In search of change to scrounge.
Restless eyed I will not stop.
Until that dragons found.

About this poem

This poem is about a powerful substance that takes control over one's life. Desperately seeking a way out and regrets of giving in to it the very first time and realizing it is unescapable and not having the power to live without the addiction.
