Once I'm a Goner

Jeffrey Powell 1979 (Pittsburgh, PA)

December 22

Once i'm a goner
i can ponder
no longer;
Or is that just a trendy ideal?

Maybe it's pointless
to try to enjoy this
perpending the choices;
Though troves it can reveal.

It is quite hectic
to keep it protected
should You elect it;
As expiring is real.

With fetters shaken
You can awaken
with no thought taken
and live for what You can feel.

So don't waste what
You've gotten a taste of
lest it get erased plumb
-for that's not included with the meal.

About this poem

Reaching one's potential -or surpassing it- is possible despite our lives having a time limit. All the more reason to live in the now. I think the things in life we discover–such as our preferences, proclivities, interests, etc. should be valued while we're here (as 'troves they can reveal' about ourselves) and are what can make life meaningful.

Jeffrey Powell

A bit of an introvert, Jeffrey enjoys using words and poetry as an outlet for expressing his thoughts and feelings. He tends to play by his own rules and darts in and out of the civilized world, as avoiding the conventional gathering is more his style. Jeffrey lives with his fraternal twin whom he enjoys sharing a laugh with at the opportune time. more…
