Light

If I could bring the spirit light within me
To a point of recognition, gaining nurture from its glow
Would then it not make sense that I could consciously anoint
My spirit’s progress with its journey in the flow

Then too could I enhance my being’s singular romance
With all the energies that touch me every day
And gain in understanding of this life force and perchance
Become a walker on the path known as The Way

Could I not by just deciding trash the barriers dividing
Man from woman, man from man or I from me
Bring my consciousness to bear upon subconscious thoughts
Residing in the air where they’ve been placed by history

Would not a child’s cries be dried more honest from inside
Could we not touch upon each other more direct
By focusing within upon the common light that hides within us all
So reaching out through introspect

For as my soul I am and as I am so am I whole as such
No different than the earth and stones and trees
And how much more the same as all mankind
Should I unfold within myself and so communicate with ease

For does not the light that shines within me shine the same for every man
Surpassing joy and understanding as we know
And such sameness form a link through which our true selves can demand
To be connected in the cosmic ebb and flow

Were not I sinew, flesh and bone erectly standing on this earth
Upon which matter formed the senses to avail
Would not such presence still be known to one of equal to my worth
This shroud of mystery that hides us to unveil

For just a spark will set a flame on to a torch that uncontained
Shines forth a light that cuts the darkness like a star
And illuminates a dwelling but is less easily ascertained
When placed within that shell and viewed there from afar

My body hides the real me, the brilliance hidden by the form
I am invisible to most upon this plane
And my own self-recognition is just now becoming warm
To the thought that after death I’ll still remain

And I need to get acquainted with what’s left when flesh is gone
And my body turns to carbon bits of dust
For that will metamorphose to a new level upon which
I will find myself a child again I trust
