Lament
Can I ask you a question?
What happened to your promises when we had nothing?
Your promise to stay with me forever!
How childishly I fell for your wolfish ways that I peeled off my layers to you,
And let myself to be bereft of joy, laughter and happiness.
I gave my blood ,sweat & tears for this so-called us!
And you exploited me.
I feel laughing at myself thinking that how could I overlook the crease by your eyes!
I didn't realise the lips I used to call home was another trap of yours!
As after my pennies made your crown,
You threw me out of my own realm for your own greed and lust for power.
You tried to erase us and I shattered,
You made a mess of me,
But you did a mistake, you pierced through the heart but never killed me.
And tonight when you're standing in front of me I can only say that your memory over me was a real fucking legacy to leave,
But I succeeded and with that step all of me changed like midnight.
You wanting me tonight feels impossible as lately I've been dressing for revenge.
So my dear love is a lie just the way you're one.
This life of mine is built upon my ashes so don't try to bring my past self, I can never be her again as the Old Me is dead.
About this poem
This poem has a history as am inspired by Taylor Swift's new album "Midnights" and I had to quote her lyrics on my poem as I couldn't get anything more apt than her lyrics. This is the first poem which indeed gave me a tough time to create so yes it's something very intricately detailed from my heart.
