Cheers! Raise a Glass...

Here's to all those laughs and every great time we ever had
But too many of those nights turned from mostly good to all bad
Heres to all those nights you didn't hold me tight and say you love me
Also to those holidays we shared with the girls as happy as could be
To those sweet cards we picked for each other on those special days
The way you used to love me in all those cute annoying ways
Heres to who we were before the drama made it's way inside
To when you showed your love way back before your love died
Cheers to the little bit of happiness we could have had if it didn't
Too late for that now sad that's it's too far gone but we don't say
Heres to all the times you was mad with absolutely no reason at all
Heres to those times you started a fight so you could make your call
Heres to when you slept with someone else laying beside me after
And all those time you didn't know you were the subject of laughter
Heres to all those times you told yourself I would never know
Thats why I accused you but never had any proof to show
A toast to those nights that ended with me in tears from your shit
To those memories of us when it all mattered and the spark was lit
When you thought I was beautiful and showed by brushing my hair
Back when you would still tell me daily that you will always care
I dread being next to you in our own bed and telling you I love you
This glass i raise to when we had a family at between us two
The things you took for granted for far far too long
Heres to you hopefully now you can see you were wrong
So cheers to you for messing up the one good thing you had
And cheers to me because since I left my life has turned out not so bad!

And one last toast here's to who your with now, go on raise your glass
From one woman to the next you might wanna run before he breaks you and takes a pass.

About this poem

This is a poem I wrote while separating from my ex of 23 years who was an abusive narcissist, this poem gave me the strength I needed to finish the job and have a celebratory cheer afterwards.
