Change - No Turning Back Now

Time flies,
seasons go by.
People go,
to and fro,
here and there,
everywhere.
Ever moving,
ever changing.

Then there’s me,
standing alone
awkwardly
in the traffic jam of life.
Unsure how to react or think.,
I crouch,
it's the only thing I know how to,
and sob.

People walk past,
ignoring my cries.
The clock is ticking,
pirouetting,
gaining speed
with each new turn.
People grow
into a blur.
I try to look
but cannot see.
People I haven’t
seen since I was ten,
Are faces I’ll prob’ly
never see again.
Faster and faster
my environment grows.
I sob even louder
because I don’t know.
All of my mem'rys
and all of my plans,
sucked up in the rush -
a flash in the pan.
I sit in the hubbub,
wishing for death.
Wailing and waiting
to draw my last breath.

A hand extends forward,
and it's my old pal,
the darkness.
It wraps me in its cold, refreshing embrace.
And as we sit there,
enveloped by the void:
night skies change,
fires burn bright,
ropes hang down,
balls bounce back,
bridges collapse.

We just want the status quo to stay the same,
but we are utterly powerless,
against the entity of time.

About this poem

This poem is about time, and its role in life. This poem is the very last one in my poetry collection "Ups, Downs, & Down Belows" to show that ultimately, time is in control of everything, and that we are powerless against time, as it will always pass.
