Underwater

Underwater with no air to breathe,
I'm unsure of how long it's been.
How long have I been sinking?
Drowning in this deep end;
Too frozen to reach some sort of surface.
I am on the edge of death,
Trapped within an underwater purgatory.
My thoughts have become intrusive;
Weighing anchors upon my shoulders.
Deeper in this place I go;
These thoughts have turned impulsive.
The rhythm of my heart, a bit too unsteady.
The sound it makes beginning to terrify me.
It draws in these strange emotions;
Uncharted and overwhelming.
I am helpless in this state.
Consumed by the monsters that lie within.
Deeper in this place I go;
A vast space of nothingness.
Taking up the oxygen my lungs have been dying to taste.
I'm unsure of how long it's been.
How long have I been down here?
Sinking endlessly; suffocating.
Drowning in this deep end.
These anchors on my shoulders,
Kept pulling me down further than they intended.
Here underwater there's no more air to breathe.
Somehow I feel vacant, a hollow shell in treacherous waters.
I am numb here underwater....
