Apathy

Excitement runs so shallow
I can never seem to make it last;
My apathy will hum anew tomorrow,
and burn last night's love fast

I wish I could capture that moment
keep it ever running through my veins,
but alas apathy returns to torment
an enemy and friend that numbs my sorrows and pains

My joy forever suffers
A sacrifice that I must pay;
For apathy to act as a buffer,
and keep the world at bay
