Tanka Tatanka

Wooly quadruped
Rebounding from past slaughter
Ruminant bison
Massive master of the plains
Triumphant spirit is yours!

About this poem

Wrote this tanka after watching a bison (a.k.a., American buffalo) in South Dakota, exhaling stream on a brisk, cold morning. ("Tatanka" is the Lakota word for bison.)
