Seven bengs of light

Joseph Berolo 1934 (Bogotá)

Seven Beings of Light

Inspired by memorial prayers
and ceremonies held today at The Johnson Space Center
¡So much pain again, Oh God!
For it was this earth
framed by Chawla’s eyes,
the landing path never reached
by seven beings of light who die
to live and live again.

In heavy grief involved , we mourn
the mighty ship in heavy thunder lost
"so close to home, so close to home"* (George W.Bush)

Seven beings of light remain today,
in mighty wonder, by a storm of fire
deployed forever to the sky beyond;
in the eternal flame of glory
to be known forever,
engraved we read
with sadness felt so many times before,
seven glorious names of light:
Rich, Laurel, Michael,
Kalpana, Ilan, David,
William...
