Searching for the right route, root

Along the path a route I choose,
Finding my way, I cannot lose.
Following the path upon the trail,
Keeping up the pace I begins to sail.

The route I seek is often found,
Neither here nor there is always around.
Whether trail or water the river flows,
Into the unknown one never knows.

The journey now taken deep within,
The path that’s chosen the root begins.
Looking up the vast tree’s height,
Looking for the top is out of sight.

The roots now exposed the soil gone,
A vast system the heart of tree belongs.
Weaving its way into the ground,
Circling the tree, the roots often found

Through wind and rain erosion feared,
The life of the trees the end is near.
Along the river the creek flows,
Into every crevasse new life grows.

The route the river the water ceased,
Weather and climate warming increased.
The ground is parched, creeks run dry,
Looking above in a cloudless sky.

Following along the parched riverbed,
Looking for the route where the footsteps lead.
The river of rock, gravel and clay,
The rains, the river of life appears one day.

Studying, searching for the right route,
Observing the life each day we lose.
Maintaining the forests keeps us alive,
Roots beneath in the forest to thrive.

walking the trials as urban development encroaches , fewer trees are seen as the creeks dry up.
