Lilith

I am Lilith.
I am the blame you place
upon my shoulders
For the sins
You have committed
For the weakness of
Your mind and will.
I am Evil
For the lust you never cage
For the fear that
Bleeds to rage.
So then you try to break me.
F*ck you.
You can't face me.
Like a man

I am Litu.
I am the ancient
Breath of life.
I am the strength of
My mothers.
I am their tenacity.
For the generations
Raped and beaten
Your flaccid might could
Not defeat them. Us.
We taught our daughters
whispered names they prayed to
In their hearts.
The only place your thirsty ears
could not drink their fill
Of holy secrets not meant
For your clumsy hands.
Your wards against us were
Our beacons of light.
To the first unbroken
Woman.
Goddess.
Mother
Of Demons.
Demons that were the undoing
Of your control.
You have none

I am Lilit.
I am my own Salvation.
Divine Justice.
Breaking free from Generations
Of "Cursed Women"
False Narrations.
I. Am. Free.
Of chains and ties I did
Not make
or ask for.
They are too heavy
Weighed down by your
Expectations and force of
will you
Won't apply to yourself.
Why?
We are the scapegoats.
The back for your
Lashes
to fall.
The skin you flay.
But we are taking the whips
and while you fear the
Reciprocity you rightly
deserve.
I said we are breaking
Chains bitch.
We don't do that here.
We are the love we leaned upon
that carries
Our Daughters
To new heights.
With wings.
Our Lilitu.
We will not bow.

About this poem

I wrote this because I felt that Lilith's story was terribly relatable for many women over the years. A woman who would not now, would not be subservient. So she was "cursed" and "broken" and "wrong". I felt that Lilith was a wonderful portrayal of how men and society view women and blame them for their dirty thoughts. Vitim shaming, abuse, rape, are all mentioned.
