Let Me Live

Prince J Dawson 1969 (Tamilnadu)

LET ME LIVE

Why should I love you?
Who are you to love me?
Why do you love me?
Am I a product?
Won’t I have a vision?
Shouldn’t I go after my dream?
Why are you forcing me to love?
Am I the fun for your pass time?
Don’t you find what’s in my mind?
I am just a sixteen year girl!
I am not 21 to marry!
Stop following me!
Stop forcing me!
Stop loving me!
Stop molesting me!
If I don’t love you?
You will blame me!
You will harass me!
You will attack me!
You will throw acid on me!
You will rape me!
You will kill me!
Stop killing me!
I have my parents to look after me!
I don’t have space for anyone or anything!
My mind is tenanted with my ambition!
I have a mission!
I have a desire!
Love at first sight isn’t love at all!
If it’s love I should love at first sight too!
I don’t love at first sight!
What you propose I dispose!
I have a mind on my own!
I have a world to live on my own!
I am not a pet to be owned!
I can’t be your pet to make you happy!
Step aside and stay away from me!
Let me be myself!

About this poem

A girl isn't free from love. She's loved by a stranger or a friend or a Classmate or a neighbour or any Tom, Dick and Harry. But she's her own mind, thought and soul. She wants to be free!
