A Cover

Elle Bzoskie 2010 (Roseville)

You can’t crack a nut that is hard and uncovered.
You can’t see a flower that’s only a bud.
Because of these things you turn them away
And tell them to go somewhere else and play.

You can’t judge a book that’s cover is hard,
That’s color is red and it’s dusty all over.
You can’t judge a book without getting to know it.
Until you say ‘hi’, stay quiet and covered.

About this poem

This poem is about how you can’t judge a person without getting to know them. Physiognomy is the word for the interpretation of someone based on their appearance. It is part human nature to judge someone as soon as you see them based on their outside appearance.
