the child in me

when I was a little kid
the child in me I had killed
or so was what I thought
God knows what I had sought

I started living in a cage
felt like an actor on a stage
I played some movie characters
the grim and sober swaggerers

I wouldn't dance I wouldn't sing
I wouldn't say no stupid thing
I wouldn't act weird or dumb
of joy, I made my heart numb

but I failed to think of one simple fact
while putting on this stupid act
that I was just a 6 year old
a heart that young I had controlled

no cruel the world's been to me
if my own viciousness I were to see
no one has bruised my heart more
it's only me and me alone.
