FLAPPING

Flapping fills the darkness
Mere metres overhead,
The wily soon are running
The guileless soon are dead.

Avians swooping down
As innocents are strolling by,
Unaware that death is near
Sailing through the evil sky.

Feathered fiends following
Metres above their prey,
Night vision so keenly
Reveal them clear as day.

Wing-beats fill the air
Upon this repugnant night,
The unlucky are pecked apart
The lucky just die of fright.

Flapping fills the darkness
In the neighbourhood park,
Lovers walking hand-in-hand
Strolling naively in the dark.

Watching from ahigh
Wing terror is following,
Until it decides to swoop
Dying lovers are hollering.
