That Christmas

Rosette Adrienne McGill 1973 (Simcoe)

That Christmas

That first Christmas
There were no toys
Tucked under the tree
No presents for the girls
And no presents for the boys

Just a woman and a man
On a donkey she rode
To find an inn
A place to stay
To give birth to her child
That night

No place was found
Not at first
Yet a lowly stable
At last was the place
To give birth

She gave birth
To a beautiful son
They named Him Jesus
As God told them
Jesus is His name

Shepherds and wisemen
Saw the bright star
Shining in the east
They came from afar
To see the miracle of His birth

Today we celebrate
Santa and get toys
When we should be
Celebrating the birth
Of this boy

This boy would grow
To be a man
That would preach
And ultimately die
To bring salvation to man

What will you celebrate
This Christmas
Who will you celebrate
This Christmas
I know who and what
I will celebrate

I will celebrate
The birth of Jesus
My Lord and Saviour
