Turning
Turning
That moment arrives unbidden
when the focus of my sight
can no longer hold to the far back,
but accepts also the far forward;
when the pain of loss is no longer
greater than the surprise of today.
Now, standing here, alone,
and wondering
why so much reluctance?
Is it just old habit
left over from other events—
the shards of broken times
still sharp and able to cut deep
and so cause a preference for avoiding
rather than leaving the storied past behind?
But a new day has arrived,
a magic calls me forward
through new doors that await—
filled with new experiences.
And I ask myself how is this possible,
and consider that
some greater hand guides. Each step,
including those that ended in tatters,
perfect as it was.
Only I objected.
