Infiltrated

Jay Ford 1984 (Youngstown, Ohio)

Last night, I met the guardian of my memories and fears,
Cloaked in mystique, his presence brooding.
Standing guard with his shield and spear,
Strength, he was very much exuding.
His intentions for me were quite impure,
Willingly allowing the corruption of my mind.
Blinding me to the allure
Of life, love, and my precious time.
It became apparent he was an infiltrator.
His loyalty lies elsewhere.
If the devil is real, he'd be his vindicator.
Professing his innocence with the utmost care.
And then I awoke to a painful reality.
Aware of a truth I until then had failed to see.
Amidst all the positive hyperbole
I learned I am him and he is me…
