Anxiety

Nicole Lawrence 1983 (Manchester, CT)

                    Anxiety                  9/10/2022

You feel like you can’t breathe, your chest is tight
You feel like you’re not doing anything right
You’d like to hide or crawl under a rock
It feels like your entire body is going into shock
You want the world to swallow you up whole
And feel like everything is out of control
Your palms get sweaty, and sometimes you cry
All you can do is ask out loud “why?”
Why does this have to happen to you?
And what is it that you’re supposed to do?
How do you make this awful feeling go away?
Because you don’t want this to last throughout the day
You can’t be around people, as that can make it worse
But you also try to reach out and find a way to converse
A way to talk to someone, a way to share
Because, maybe, it might help to make someone aware
Some people do try to help with meditation
And for some the only help is with medication
I know that you can be scared of the unknown
Just know that you are not alone
No matter what, it is no fun, you see
Because this is the life you have with anxiety

About this poem

I wrote this poem as I, myself, suffer from anxiety which can be pretty debilitating at times and this is a way for me to get it out sometimes is to just write it all out, it's another form of therapy for me
