Hopeless Mind

Lillian K Ezekiel 1995 (Nxomokao)

We have been lied to
That there is light at the end of the tunnel When we cannot even run across the rays

For me, nights are for whipping

In a foreign land
Where I wake up every morning
To show up at a prison
That some call work
Where my feelings are injured
My mouth sealed
My back breaking
All I do is cursing the sun to go down

Getting the coins
I still walk barefooted
365 days
It's  the same tone dress that covers my skin

It is my mum and daughter that i break my back for

Where I put my head
A loaf of bread and a can of coke
The only taste my mouth knows
A routine that my body has accepted

My basket becomes too heavy for the pillow
When the sun goes down
Drowning in sorrow
Depression weakening my heart
Slowly consuming my body
