Ginger

Her hair wasn’t orange
and her skin wasn’t pale

She had a thin spray of
light brown freckles across
her nose and dotting her
shoulders.

Her hair was strawberry blonde
naturally falling somewhere
between red and blonde,
but never really picking a side,
especially in the sun.

I suppose her mother named her
“Ginger” because she knew she’d
grow up to be both sweet and spicy.
