Surface

Look here below this surface.
Nothing is as it seems to be.
The aftermath of a raging storm;
Now a puddle on the concrete.
Monsters hide here, but they'll be discrete.

A mouth once sown shut;
Now ripped open, spilling everything.
Words seem never-ending.
There are many secrets I can no longer keep.
All too suddenly, the needle has worn thin.

Lucid nightmares now roam this surface.
A roulette of stories,
Twisting their own bindings.
Visions of what could've been.
Déjà vu at every echoing corner.

Time is slowing down; stuck in a hiccup.
There's no need to go in rushing.
These monsters here, they get spooked easily.
Yet here I am, in the middle of it.
The center of a rude awakening.

Below this surface, I am a million things.
Everything is as it seems to be.
Keep these monsters here,
Just let them be.
For they are the storm inside of me....
