That one light
Once upon a cold dark evening,
The moon and stars were brightly shining,
I laid upon the cold damp earth,
On frozen, frosty grass reclining.
I gazed upon the winter sky,
Lifting up my weary eyes,
Upon the vast eternal expanse,
Watching meteors flying by.
Like diamonds soaring through the sky,
They carved the dark with light,
And blended with the celestial host,
Throughout that starlit night.
They hardly caught my sullen eyes,
I barely was enticed.
So small, so dim, so minuscule,
They hardly drew my sight.
As I glanced upon the sky,
I saw with my two eyes,
A shining sphere of sapphire light,
Blitz through the black and gloomy night.
It made a bright and brilliant show,
With such ethereal, angelic glow,
As it crossed that vast expanse,
Into the great unknown.
"I hope to be like that one light."
I told myself out loud,
"Though encompassed by the night,
My light will shine unbound!"
