Things Possessed

Money to have it.
And things acquired to possess.
Many obsessed,
With this belief...
Think of themselves as achievers of success.
Enough to address those impressed.

Yet...
So many others successful,
Who do what they do not to impress.
Are often unknown but shown disrespect.
And when discovered,
Them to be behind the scenes.
Doing things those seeking to impress,
Would never been seen doing publicly.
Only then it is perceived to believe,
People like that...
Wish attention to get.
Although if wanted...
They could have had it without to flaunt it.
Making it known and it shown,
There more to life,
Than pretensions to satisfy...
An ego eager with a craving to need and feel,
Just as valued as things acquired.
That has nothing to do with being valued,
As a responsible trustworthy...
And dependable human being!

Things possessed,
Ultimately become worthless.
Like impressions to address them made.
Done to do to forget,
Who flaunted what, why and when.
Not to ask anyone's name.
Or be remembered by those doing the same.

'Who was that?'

'I couldn't tell you if you paid me.
All I remember,
Was hearing a bunch of names dropped.
Shined shoes.
A custom made suit.
Worn over a starched shirt with a bowtie.
And a sleeve pulled up.
To display a Rolex watch.
Then a walking away to hear a voice say,
IT'S TIME FOR ME TO MIX AND MINGLE!'

'Didn't the invitation mention,
To come dressed casually?'

'Yes.
However...
Maybe they misunderstood what that meant.'

'No.
It was understood.'
