Lenore
I have tasted the sweet fruit
And want to consume you
To the core. Bite deep
Until the flesh is raw.
But the raven spoke
“Nevermore”
I have hugged you
For the last time
Upon that seashore.
Left you there
‘Me amour’
Still the raven cried
“Nevermore”
As the year went by, one day
I heard a gentle tapping
An eager rapping
At my door.
There were your raven lips
Reaching up on toe tips
Mine forever more.
About this poem
I have long enjoyed Edgar Allan Poe's 'The Raven' and the musical interpretation by Allan Parsons. This poem was born from the possibility of a relationship.
