Shackles

Adegoke Yoela 2005 (Jos)

Oh! what a bondage
it held me tight
like a mobile prison
it limits me
it's a shackle
it  chained me

it so hard that i can't loose
so tight i can't breath
so narrow i  can't move
am held where i don't know
i am attached where i can't fight
how do i face it

oh fear!  you've robbed me
you passed like locus
 you ate like caterpillar
devoured me with your own teeth
rushed me with your giant feet
what weapon can i use

i wish you where bone i would have broken you
flesh i would have eaten you
blood i would have slayed you
liquid i would have pilled
gas i would have trapped
but, what the heck are you

if you really work in mind
then why  do i sweat
why do i have goosebumps
why  do my  hands stagger
why  do my  voice break
why all the poundings going on in my  chest

it like am on the ring with an invisible opponent
punching a ghost
shooting against a point behind a glass
like the night images dogs bark at
hmm! the that picture of my enemy
bless the fearful.
