Feeling Down And Out

Gilda L McNeil-Perry 1952 (Philadelphia)

Quietly minutes grew into hours, time choose not to wait, Leaving behind emptiness, a longing for you, my mate. Though we had been together, memories proved not enough. I hungered for satisfaction where two as one could love. I tried to ignore desires with each second that passed me by. I could not erase the hurt that dwelled so deep inside. Of this painful feeling; I wondered if you knew. I continued to wait in darkness while my heart ached for you.

About this poem

This poem was written in 1976 and it is not published, but copywritten. It describes a feeling of loneliness and the need to reach out, however, I decided to write about the feeling rather than living it out.

    Hi Gilda,
You have a way of clearly expressing your feelings, arousing the same feelings inside of me. Thanks for your honest description.
