Send Me A Whisper

Another page in this book, and I’ve left the previous undone
The hall outside is filled with secrets
Written in languages I cannot read
Perhaps these words require eyes that cannot see.

I walk out the door and along comes a woman of old
I walk in the elevator, so does she
Sounds begin to tune into nothingness and time?
Let’s just say there is no concept of time.

She wears a smile, prettiest I’ve ever seen
Wonder what she’s seeing at 7 in the morning
Her ashen hair gently call my name,
The only thing I needed to bring her into my world.

I see fields with no boundaries, rivers running endless
I see colours rare to my world dancing underneath the moonlight
Yet I do not know in which direction I’m supposed to go
For the roads are ending where I’m beginning,
Perhaps the traveller is unfit.

I walk in the city as the daylight ends
Nightlife glows brighter than yesterday
Ten thousand people, and every one of them has a different story
The neon lights make it easy to get lost all the while
But what do they know, this one lost his way a long time ago.

Three weeks have passed since I first saw her in the elevator
And she’s always carried that joy every time I crossed her path
But somehow it is this day I finally see her for who she really is
As she now lays before me without a strand of hope in her skin.

They found her yesterday in her chair, looking out the window
Took an amount of pills she knew she never needed
Didn’t leave anything behind, only if she had known me
One fine play, and she killed us both in the same night.

It was all so real, like I was there, like I could touch it.
I never did stand a chance,
Without the view, the painting just … changes.
Makes me wonder, was the traveller really unfit?

I’m here on my knees and my eyes are growing weary
I've been stranded here for far too long
What in the world were you smiling about?
Can you not send me a whisper?
Send me just one, and I’ll make up the rest of the story.
