RUINS

Jabes Bwanga 2000 (Lusaka)

Ruins
Alice ties a rope to the ceiling
Alice wraps a rope around her neck
Alice stands on a stool
Alice chokes, Alice chokes

Alice is in mid air
Alice is kicking around
Alice struggles for breathe
But ropes break, ropes break

Alice falls to the ground
Alice bruises her hand
Alice cries, Alice cries

Alice picks herself from the ground
Alice escapes death for the first time
But she does not escape its wailings
Which are blood thirsty demons

Alice thinks of the baby she carries
Alice thinks about the rejections
Alice remembers her uncles words
"DON'T TELL ANYONE"
As he devoured her prey
Alice cries, Alice cries

Alice is a broken apartment
Alice is an abandoned canon
Releasing bullets of hate

Alice is mess
Alice is a wet mop
Lying in a pool of regret

Alice wipes her tears
Alice goes to the livingroom
Alice grabs a bottle of doom with her tiny fingers
Alice opens the top of the can
Alice sniffs the disturbing aroma
Alice coughs, Alice coughs

Alice closes the curtains of her senses
Alice opens wide her mouth
Alice brings a bottle closer to her mouth
Alice drinks, Alice drinks.
