ROAD ECONO MIX

Masitha Hoeane 1951 (Sharpeville)

ROAD ECONO MIX (f)

Operation Vala Zonke's here at last
To ruinous potholes curb and cover
Up and down the land they say
Too little too late say some cynics

Remember roads a lifeline are
Econo's rush of blood to head
Industrial wheels to turn and tow
Goods to distant markets deliver

So better late than never
Cos time and tide for no man wait
And life goes on sulk or sentiment
'Too little-too late' is logic not law

Any news' good news l guess
To fix obscenely gaping holes
Every road tease and touch
Investor booster shot injects

Severe potholes prolonged
Into toxic  poxholes mutate
Rampant poxholes in turn
Carpox breed with speed

Enough a nation to bleed and stress
Circulatory system are car and tar
From hub to far out hinterland
From deep inland to coastland

Carpox scars and mars cars
Faster wear and tear for tyres
Acutely rattling rickety bodies
Edgy drivers from stress and strain

Production hours on slow roads lost
Cars caught in catastrophic accidents
A harrowing perennial road carnage
Incalculable but avoidable innings

Who unleashed Operation Vula?
Season of pothole rampancy
Shut and seal the Vula backdoor
Before a Vala on front door do

Name and shame them here
For every cause a consequence
But a best kept secret Vula remains
The Hyde re-ambush remains a risk

Close potholes behind potholes
Corruption  inefficiency nepotism
And you a true sun and hero shall be
And toxìc econo mix be fixed
