HOPE

HOPE 1993 (mombasa)

The first born of hope is perseverance ,
many don't like because he is too much of a burden.
He plays an important role in our lives, unequaled to a prison warden.
He helps us understand that hope is the fresh rose in the garden, but sometimes the thorns prick us all of a sudden, it catches us by surprise when it all happens.
We cry for a while, sometimes days and nights , the bitterness inside , the sorrow from a mile that hides our smile like the clouds over the sun that blocks its shine.
Darkness comes before dawn, then later on the birds sing a new song to welcome a new day born.
Chilly morning breeze, the dew on the grass when stepping on it with bare feet is the feeling of hope transmitted down the spine.
The beads of perspiration  trickling down the face of a bride who can't wait to walk down the aisle.
The legacy of a champion who ran across the finishing line.
A barren woman who held her first child and heard her cry for the first time.
Who remembers the day he was born?
so shall it be when the sad days are gone?
When they vanish and disappear like the sunset on the horizon.
Rejoice and be glad Hope is your reward.

About this poem

I wrote this poem because of the challenges and struggles we face as humans in our daily lives. Sometimes we despair because we feel broken and defeated even though we ought to never give up.
