Tears of Fall

Tears fall.
As we all.
Sometimes somber joys of season changes.
Sometimes nightmares of truth awaken them.
My favorite tears are my own, they never lie.
Love brings tears of all kinds.

Occasionally a nighttime drive brings a yawn;
Behind it another tear impedes the view.
City lights, country roads, and tiresome selfish eyes;
The tear escapes and disappears
Like the leaves on the tree.
But they'll be back again next season;
As will the leaves on the tree.

Like the passersby I wonder where they go
And where they're coming from.
Some are mean and want you to hurt.
Some are joyous and bring warmth to the coldest hearts.
Pain, love, delight, grief, perfection:
A gift of closure, meaningful and powerful.
Before the great white death of winter's arrival
Tears will fall.
Tears of Fall.

Today I shed one for you, too.
Tomorrow I might shed two.
Spring will get here soon.
And then tears of joy will spring again.
Get them out!
A zero sum, the liberation of the tear:
Opposing feelings enter the heart as they exit the eye
I am worth one or two of yours.
This sensitive soul of mine is resilient.
Tears fall.
As we all.

About this poem

I wrote this while reflecting on the breaking up of a toxic relationship, and without harboring any Ill will, I still love deeply and pray we both improve ourselves.
