NIGHT SOUNDS

Ken Bartlett 1934 (Leominsterr Mass)

      NIGHT  SOUNDS

Tick-tock, tick-tock, drip, drip, drip, drop.
Train whistle toots and traffic distributes nonstop.

Delivery trucks come, delivery trucks go
over the speed bumps; kerplump, fast and slow.

Heat pumps clatter, splatter, and spew
strange sounds; some old and some that are new.

     Tires squeal,  radio blares.
Missiles from a gunshot, go splat on our stairs.

Somewhere not far groans of pain pierce the night.
Sounds of the night deliver their plight.
