Complacent Woe
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Woe to those who are at ease,
Those who are feeling secure;
All the comforts sure to please,
With the pleasures are impure.
Pass over to see and go,
Are you better off than them;
Where the milk and honey flow,
Having chaos and mayhem.
They have an open border,
More than your territory;
Having no law and order,
Being a sanctuary.
O you who put far away,
Where disaster has caused fear;
The evil comes every day,
Violence is always near.
Woe to those who lie in bed,
Stretched on the couch eating lamb;
Having a feast to be fed,
And eating more beef and ham.
Singing idle songs of the heart,
Nice instrumental music;
Songs played with guitar and harp,
Beautiful and euphonic.
Woe for drinking wine in bowls,
Anointing with the best oil;
But grieving over lost souls,
For their hardship and toil.
Because they will be the first,
Those who will become captive;
Exiled and die of thirst,
Salvation, God did not give
