The Night
O night that reaches, expands in its greatness,
Bringing the blanket of deepening darkness,
Dragging starlight through intoxicating vastness,
Trades all consciousness for insentient blackness.
Dreams alight with mysterious mischief
Invading the minds of the slumbering masses,
Floating in chambers of cerebral spaces,
Projecting false worlds in virtual places.
Hope drives a flagship across choppy waters,
Lost in the night- lost in the battle,
Searching for dawn with its heart never settled,
Cutting through ice in the blistering weather.
The owl stands ready, his eyes ever searching,
Scanning the night on the tree where he's perching,
Looking for prey on the land that is lurking
To satisfy hunger with stomach still churning.
The river still thriving cuts landscapes in passing,
Slipping through moonlight, so fresh and inviting,
Sliding o'er stones near hidden embankments,
Finding the sea with flowing enchantments.
The earth turns its back to sunlight and brightness,
To face sibling planets in fanciful action,
Drinking in stars with great satisfaction,
Lifting a gaze in its steady rotation.
The moon glides with grace, filled with excitement,
To display her rays, so bright and resplendent,
Haunting the sky in playful amusement,
Dancing so free in circular orbit.
Breezes bring whispers in animated treetops,
Bending the shadows that lie o'er the pine drops,
Rustling noise, that swells with a mantra,
Singing like angels who join in the chorus.
